Dominican Republic
Occupying the eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic is the region's largest economy and most-visited tourist destination. The capital Santo Domingo was the first permanent European settlement in the Americas, founded in 1496. The country is known for baseball talent, merengue and bachata music, and its Atlantic and Caribbean beaches.
