DR Congo
The second-largest country in Africa and the most populous francophone nation in the world, the Democratic Republic of the Congo straddles the equator with vast tropical rainforests second only to the Amazon. The capital Kinshasa is Africa's third-largest city. Despite holding enormous mineral wealth — including cobalt critical for batteries — decades of conflict have left the country among the world's poorest.
