Equatorial Guinea
The only Spanish-speaking country in sub-Saharan Africa, Equatorial Guinea consists of a mainland region (Río Muni) and several islands including Bioko, where the capital Malabo is located. Oil discovery in the 1990s made it one of the wealthiest African nations by per capita GDP, though wealth distribution remains highly unequal. A new capital, Ciudad de la Paz, is under construction on the mainland.
