Gabon
A sparsely populated Central African nation straddling the equator, Gabon is one of the continent's most prosperous countries thanks to oil wealth and vast tropical forests covering 88% of its territory. The capital Libreville ('Free Town') was founded by freed slaves. Despite its small size, Gabon is one of Africa's top oil producers and has established 13 national parks covering 11% of its territory.
