Iraq
Situated in Mesopotamia — the 'Cradle of Civilization' — between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, Iraq is where writing, mathematics, and the first cities emerged. The capital Baghdad was the center of the medieval Islamic Golden Age. Despite decades of conflict and instability, Iraq holds the world's fifth-largest proven oil reserves and is rebuilding its infrastructure and institutions.
