Kiribati
A remote Pacific island nation of 33 atolls and reef islands scattered across 3.5 million square kilometers of ocean, Kiribati straddles the equator and the International Date Line. The capital Tarawa was the site of a fierce World War II battle. Kiribati is among the countries most threatened by rising sea levels, with most of its land barely two meters above the ocean.
