Maldives
The world's lowest-lying country, the Maldives is a chain of 26 atolls comprising about 1,200 coral islands in the Indian Ocean southwest of India, with an average elevation of just 1.5 meters above sea level. The capital Malé is one of the most densely populated cities on Earth. The Maldives is a premier luxury tourism destination and faces existential threat from rising sea levels.
