Mauritius
A volcanic island nation in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, Mauritius has transformed from a sugar-dependent economy into one of Africa's most prosperous and stable countries, with strong textile, tourism, and financial sectors. The capital Port Louis is a busy commercial port. Mauritius was once home to the now-extinct dodo bird and is celebrated for its multicultural harmony among Hindu, Muslim, Chinese, and Creole communities.
