North Macedonia
A small, landlocked Balkan nation in southeastern Europe, North Macedonia gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1991 and resolved a long-running name dispute with Greece in 2019 by adding 'North' to its name. The capital Skopje sits on the Vardar River. Lake Ohrid, one of Europe's oldest and deepest lakes, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared with Albania.
