Sudan
Africa's third-largest country by area, Sudan stretches from the arid Sahara in the north to the Nile's confluence at Khartoum, where the Blue and White Nile rivers meet. The capital Khartoum sits at this dramatic junction. Sudan has more ancient pyramids than Egypt (in the Kingdom of Kush sites at Meroë) and has faced recurring political instability and humanitarian crises.
